Sun Chemical expands perylene pigment production in Ludwigshafen to meet growing global demand
Sun Chemical has expanded perylene pigment capacity at its Ludwigshafen, Germany site by up to 200 t to support increasing demand across coatings, plastics and automotive markets. The investment strengthens supply reliability and underscores the company’s commitment to high-performance pigment innovation.
Sun Chemical has expanded its perylene pigment production capacity at its Ludwigshafen, Germany facility, adding up to 200 metric tonnes of finished goods and intermediates. The expansion aims to meet rising global demand for high-performance pigments and to ensure a secure and reliable supply for customers in the coatings, plastics and automotive industries.

Enhanced performance and sustainable solutions
The Ludwigshafen expansion reinforces Sun Chemical’s strong pigment portfolio. Paliogen Red premium perylene pigments deliver intense red to maroon shades with excellent heat resistance, weather stability and high colour purity. Certified with ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX, these pigments support sustainable coating solutions for luxury and automotive applications.
Spectrasense functional black perylene pigments combine deep black coloration with solar heat management and laser welding capability. They enable the formulation of NIR-reflective black surfaces that stay cooler under sunlight while offering deep black tones for high-end applications in automotive and construction.
