Evonik switches epoxy curing agent production to renewable electricity

Evonik has converted all global production plants for epoxy curing agents to operate on 100 % renewable electricity. The transition is expected to cut Scope 1 and 2 emissions by around one third annually, supporting the company’s sustainability targets.

Evonik has announced that all production plants for epoxy curing agents in its Crosslinkers business line now operate on 100 % renewable electricity. The sites in Marl (Germany), Clayton (UK), Isehara (Japan), Los Angeles and Singapore are included in the conversion.

The switch is projected to reduce Scope 1 and 2 emissions from these operations by roughly 30 % each year. This step contributes to Evonik’s wider sustainability goals of lowering such emissions by 25 % by 2030 and achieving climate neutrality by 2050.

Responding to customer demand for sustainable solutions

“Using green electricity for our epoxy curing agents worldwide is another strong step in our sustainability journey,” said Tobias Winkler, Global Sustainability Manager, Evonik Crosslinkers. “We are reducing carbon emissions while creating a pathway towards innovative, climate-conscious production.”

The change builds on earlier actions in 2025, when the Crosslinkers business began securing renewable energy via green electricity certificates and supply agreements. This allowed the company to complete the transition for all epoxy curing agent plants.

Strengthening market position in epoxy curing agents

Christina Walkosak, Senior Vice President Epoxy Curing Agents, highlighted that the move meets growing customer demand for sustainable products. “By adopting renewable electricity in our epoxy production plants globally, we not only lower carbon emissions but also reinforce our role as a reliable, long-term partner for the epoxy industry.”

Epoxy curing agents from Evonik are essential raw materials for coatings, construction, composite materials and adhesives, with applications in high-performance industrial sectors.
