Sherwin Williams strengthens R&D at Sheffield site with EUR 295,000 investment
US-based coatings manufacturer Sherwin Williams has expanded its research and development laboratory in Sheffield, England. The investment aims to enhance product development and employee training at the long-established site.
Sherwin Williams has invested approximately EUR 295,000 (GBP 250,000) in the expansion of its research and development laboratory at its Chapeltown site near Sheffield, England. The company aims to strengthen collaboration between development and production and position the location as a central hub for innovation within the group.
During an official reopening ceremony, senior leaders including Jane Ryder, Vice President and General Manager of the Consumer Brands Group EMEAI, and Martin Seabrook, Technical Director EMEAI, spoke about the strategic significance of the expansion. The investment includes new testing and development equipment and facilities to support training for employees across the UK and Ireland.

The upgraded site will now serve as the group’s core development centre. As part of the expansion, six highly skilled new roles have been created. In addition, the company plans to deepen collaboration with local universities and colleges, enabling more industrial placements and apprenticeships and contributing to regional employment prospects for future science graduates.
Following the relocation of production to Chapeltown in 2022, the decision to also consolidate all R&D activities at the site marks a new chapter in its history. The facility, which has manufactured coatings for several decades, will now manage the full development cycle for nearly all new products and technologies – from initial concept to final production.
