Sherwin-Williams ends paint manufacturing in Jamaica and shifts to distribution model

Sherwin-Williams has ended paint manufacturing at its White Marl facility in St. Catherine, Jamaica, with 31 July marking the final day of production at the site. The products previously made at the facility will now be manufactured at other Sherwin-Williams locations and imported into Jamaica via the company’s existing supply chain. The specific facilities that will take over production have not been identified.

According to reports, the White Marl operation had produced architectural, automotive, and industrial finishes, including products in the “Kem” line. The distribution centre at the site will remain operational, while decommissioning of the manufacturing portion is expected to continue into 2027.

Operations and employment in Jamaica to continue

Sherwin-Williams stated that distribution will be maintained from St. Catherine and Montego Bay, and the company’s 24 company-owned retail stores across Jamaica will remain open. The company said it does not expect the transition to disrupt product supply.

Regarding staffing, the company indicated that 21 employees entered consultations related to the closure. Of these, seven were transferred to other positions and 14 were separated. Sherwin-Williams stated it will continue to employ approximately 180 people in Jamaica.

Strategic review cited as reason for closure

The company said the decision followed a review of its operations and long-term strategy, and was not related to the performance of the St. Catherine plant or its employees.

Sherwin-Williams’ 2025 annual report filed with the US Securities and Exchange Commission had listed one Consumer Brands Group manufacturing facility and one distribution facility in Jamaica, alongside paint stores operated as part of its Caribbean network.
