BASF strengthens global supply with new production line for dispersants in Nanjing
BASF has inaugurated a state-of-the-art production line for high-performance dispersants in the Jiangbei New Material Technology Park in Nanjing, China. The CFRP technology supports market demand and promotes sustainable solutions for the coatings industry.
BASF has officially launched its new production line for high-performance dispersants at the Jiangbei New Material Technology Park in Nanjing, China. This strategic investment is aimed at meeting the growing demand in industrial and automotive coatings. Using Controlled Free Radical Polymerization (CFRP), the facility delivers enhanced colour performance and improved pigment dispersion, significantly boosting the quality and efficiency of end products.
Dr Stephan Kothrade, Member of the Board of Executive Directors of BASF SE, emphasized the importance of the new facility for the region and global supply chains during the inauguration: “With cutting-edge CFRP technology and innovative production processes, we can support our customers’ green transformation in Asia while ensuring a lower carbon footprint.” The expanded production capabilities in Nanjing complement the existing facility in Heerenveen, Netherlands, ensuring greater supply security and flexibility.
CFRP Technology for Sustainable Growth
The introduction of CFRP technology in China strengthens BASF’s leadership in the specialty chemicals market. Sylvain Huguenard, Vice President Global Additives Business Management, highlighted that the new facility enables the development of dispersants tailored to meet the demands of high-end markets. These products offer a broader colour range and superior product performance, particularly for paints, printing inks, and composites.
Since 2007, the Nanjing site has served as a key production hub for specialty chemicals in China and the Asia-Pacific region. The new facility enhances BASF’s competitiveness and innovation capabilities. This expansion coincides with BASF’s 140th anniversary in China, underscoring the company’s commitment to sustainable industrial development and global partnerships.
Global Supply and Local Strength
The new production line in Nanjing marks a significant step in ensuring the worldwide supply of high-performance dispersants. By combining production capacities in China and the Netherlands, BASF can flexibly respond to market fluctuations and provide reliable partnerships to its customers. Gops Pillay, President of BASF’s Global Operating Division, stated that the facility strengthens the company’s ability to meet the needs of a dynamic market.
High-performance dispersants are vital for the coatings industry, significantly improving pigment dispersion and colour quality. With its use of advanced technology and focus on sustainability, BASF sets a clear tone for the future of the chemical sector.
