The move is about more than adding capacity. Local SCA production is expected to strengthen supply security, shorten lead times and improve service for customers throughout APAC. The Rayong site offers established infrastructure, technical expertise and operational synergies with existing Allnex facilities, while its location provides efficient access to major automotive manufacturing centres in China, India, Korea and Southeast Asia.

At the same time, the investment supports Allnex’s focus on future-oriented SCA technologies. These include high-performance, high-solid and low-bake solutions designed to help coating manufacturers meet rising requirements for efficiency and sustainability.

Our contributing author Kenneth Beattie spoke with Taweesak Kaosol, Marketing Director APAC at Allnex about the move.

This is Allnex’s first SCA production site outside Europe in over 40 years. What strategic considerations drove this shift?

Taweesak Kaosol: The decision was driven primarily by customer demand and market growth. Asia-Pacific has become the largest market globally for sag control agents (SCAs), supported by continued growth in automotive production and increasing requirements for premium coating appearance. Over recent years, both global and regional customers have expressed a strong preference for localized production in APAC. By establishing SCA manufacturing in Thailand, Allnex can significantly improve supply security, shorten lead times, and respond more quickly to customer needs. The location also offers logistical advantages, including access to regional Free Trade Agreements, helping us serve customers more efficiently and competitively. Ultimately, this investment reflects our commitment to supporting customer growth and ensuring sufficient capacity for future market demand.
