Sherwin-Williams has inaugurated the Morikis Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio. This state-of-the-art facility will serve as a hub for coatings research, product development and process engineering, strengthening the company’s global innovation capabilities.
Sherwin-Williams has officially opened the Morikis Global Technology Center in Brecksville, Ohio, a cutting-edge facility intended to drive innovation in coatings technology. The 55,742-square-metre campus (600,000 square feet) brings together nearly 900 employees, including chemists, engineers and technicians, in a collaborative environment designed to advance research, product development and process engineering.
Named after former CEO John G. Morikis, the facility is part of the company’s “Building Our Future” project and represents a significant investment in Northeast Ohio. “This grand opening marks a bold step forward in how the company innovates, performs and leads on the global stage,” said Heidi G. Petz, Chair, President and CEO of Sherwin-Williams. The centre, she added, is built to “accelerate discovery, strengthen collaboration, drive productivity and solve real problems for our global customers.”
A hub for coatings research and innovation
The Morikis Global Technology Center features multiple lab wings, modular research spaces, training areas and work cafés, all designed with flexibility and growth in mind. The facility’s focus spans a wide range of areas, including coatings research, colour technology and process optimisation. It aims to enable breakthrough solutions tailored to meet the needs of customers across key markets such as construction, industrial, packaging and transportation.
The new technology centre complements Sherwin-Williams’ global headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio, creating two world-class campuses in the region. Together, these facilities reinforce the company’s commitment to driving innovation while supporting the local economy. Brecksville Mayor Daryl Kingston highlighted the project’s impact on the community, describing it as “transformational” and a catalyst for economic development in the area.
Strategic investment in the future of coatings
Sherwin-Williams’ commitment to advancing science and innovation reflects broader trends in the coatings industry, where companies are investing in research to meet evolving demands for sustainable, high-performance solutions. The facility is expected to play a key role in shaping the company’s future by accelerating the development of differentiated products and technologies.
Ohio Lt. Governor Jim Tressel praised the project as a significant investment in the state’s workforce and economic potential. “This investment creates opportunities for Ohioans, strengthens our workforce and reinforces why our state is a great place to live, work and innovate,” he said.
The Morikis Global Technology Center underscores the importance of research infrastructure in staying competitive in the global coatings market. By bringing together decades of expertise and state-of-the-art resources, Sherwin-Williams positions itself to address both current and future challenges in the industry.
