Grasim and Lubrizol inaugurate advanced CPVC resin facility in India
The plant, with an annual capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes, aims to meet growing demand in the construction and infrastructure sectors.
Grasim Industries, the flagship company of the Aditya Birla Group, and Lubrizol Advanced Materials have jointly opened a modern Chlorinated Polyvinyl Chloride (CPVC) resin manufacturing facility in Vilayat, Gujarat. Located within Grasim’s chlor-alkali complex, the newly inaugurated plant represents a significant technological advancement for the region. The first phase of the facility has an annual production capacity of 50,000 metric tonnes.
CPVC resin is widely used in applications such as plumbing, water management, fire safety systems, and industrial piping. The new facility is set to address the growing demand from the construction and infrastructure sectors, particularly as the market increasingly prioritises locally produced materials.
Boosting India’s domestic production capabilities
Jayant V Dhobley, Business Head and CEO of Global Chemicals at Aditya Birla Group, highlighted the collaboration between Grasim and Lubrizol: “This brings together Grasim’s manufacturing and execution capability in India with Lubrizol’s latest technology to deliver reliable CPVC materials for the market. It reflects our approach of building and collaborating to scalable chemical manufacturing capabilities together.”
This partnership marks an important milestone in India’s chemical industry development. By leveraging advanced technology and focusing on domestic production, the project contributes to reducing reliance on imported raw materials and strengthens India’s position as a global manufacturing hub.
Impact on construction and infrastructure sectors
The facility is expected to enhance the supply of CPVC resin for critical applications, supporting infrastructure growth within India. Rebecca Liebert, CEO of Lubrizol, emphasised the importance of this initiative: “This investment stands for our commitment to providing advanced materials that meet industry demands while promoting sustainable solutions.”
The plant in Vilayat underscores the strategic partnership between Grasim Industries and Lubrizol, as well as their shared vision to advance the chemical industry through innovation and technology.
