Dörken Coatings and J.W. Ostendorf enter into partnership
Dörken Coatings, known among other things for its architectural paints, is undergoing a strategic transformation. With the aim of further developing its own expertise and entering the market with new technologies, the company has entered into another partnership.
Dörken Coatings ranks among the top three suppliers of architectural paints and coatings in Germany. However, this segment will not generate sufficient market growth in the future to further increase the company’s relevance. The company will therefore expand its portfolio in the area of interior and façade solutions with new technologies and patents that address current topics such as sustainability and biocide-/preservative-free formulations. “In order to strengthen our market position in the long term, we have entered into a partnership with J.W. Ostendorf in Coesfeld, securing external production capacity,” explains Bernd von Pachelbel, Executive Vice President of Dörken Coatings.
The new partner will be progressively enabled by Dörken Coatings to manufacture professional architectural paints according to Dörken’s formulations and specifications. At the same time, active investment is being made in the infrastructure of the partner’s site as well as in the technology, to ensure the formulations are produced to a high quality standard. As a result of this initiative, the production of architectural paints will be gradually relocated from Herdecke to J.W. Ostendorf in Coesfeld by 2027. As part of this operational change, the works council and management have agreed on a voluntary redundancy programme. At the same time, Dörken is examining a possible acquisition of the operational business in this context.
