UV-induced peelable adhesive developed with castor oil-based urethane acrylate and acrylic copolymer with siloxane and benzophenone groups
A novel UV-induced peelable adhesive combines castor oil-based urethane acrylate and acrylic copolymers with siloxane and benzophenone groups, optimising peeling performance for wafer dicing processes.
Enhancing UV-induced peelable pressure-sensitive adhesives (PSAs) is vital for improving the reliability of wafer dicing processes. Researchers have developed an innovative adhesive formulation that significantly optimises peeling performance.
The adhesive features castor oil-based urethane acrylate oligomers with high acrylate functionality, offering both UV- and heat-curing capabilities. Combined with an acrylic copolymer containing siloxane and benzophenone groups, the adhesive achieves superior peeling performance. The covalent bonding of these groups enables structural crosslinking under UV irradiation, reducing peel strength to an impressive 0.07 N/25 mm.
Reading tip: Light Stabilizers for Coatings
Discover the importance of light stabilizers in maintaining coatings’ durability and appearance with “”Light Stabilizers for Coatings.“” This book explores the chemistry, mechanisms, and applications of light stabilizers, essential for coatings exposed to outdoor conditions or UV radiation.
Optimised peeling performance and structural crosslinking
The acrylic copolymer (PSA-ABP-MATS) achieved a peel strength of 10.1 N/25 mm with 2.8 wt% benzophenone and 1.7 wt% siloxane content, compared to 6.2 N/25 mm for unmodified copolymers. Through UV-induced radical polymerisation and photo-curing reactions, the adhesive forms a highly crosslinked film that ensures robust adhesion while enabling easy removal.
These findings demonstrate the potential of chemical modifications with siloxane and benzophenone groups to enhance the efficiency and versatility of UV-induced peelable adhesives for demanding semiconductor applications.
