Coatings manufacturer PPG has announced a major investment in the United States: a new production site dedicated to aerospace coatings and sealants will be built in Shelby, North Carolina, with an investment volume of USD 380 million (approx. EUR 350 million). Construction on the 62-acre site is scheduled to begin in October 2025 and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. The plant will have a floor area of 198,000 square feet and will employ more than 110 people.
The facility will house manufacturing and warehousing operations and will produce the company’s complete range of aerospace coatings and sealants. With its strategic location and proximity to major transport infrastructure, the site is intended to strengthen the company’s supply chain and logistics capabilities.
Growth strategy and sustainability goals
According to PPG, the project reflects growing global demand for aerospace materials and highlights the company’s commitment to the sector. Tim Knavish, chairman and CEO of PPG, said the facility will contribute to innovation and modernisation while supporting the company’s mission to protect and beautify the world. Sam Millikin, vice president of global aerospace, emphasised the plant’s role in enhancing operational efficiency and supporting customer needs more effectively.
In line with PPG’s sustainability strategy, the new plant will be equipped with advanced technologies to minimise its environmental impact and ensure high standards of safety and quality.
