EuPIA Conference 2026: industry collaboration in focus
The European Printing Ink Association (EuPIA) hosted its annual conference on 16 and 17 April 2026 in Malmö, Sweden, bringing together 65 participants from across Europe’s printing ink value chain.
Under the theme of collaboration, industry representatives discussed regulatory challenges, market dynamics, and strategies to address the profound transformation facing the sector.
Regulation and market shifts dominate discussions
A significant portion of the conference focused on regulatory developments, including the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), food contact materials legislation, and national ordinances such as the revised Swiss Ink Ordinance. Speakers highlighted the increasing complexity of compliance requirements and the shift towards prevention-based regulatory approaches.
Market performance was also reviewed, with mixed results in 2025. Packaging inks remained resilient but saw slight volume and sales declines, while publication inks continued their structural downturn. Regional performance varied significantly, with Iberia achieving growth while other regions faced declines.
Looking ahead: challenges as opportunities
The conference concluded with a forward-looking message from EuPIA Chair Dr Nicolas Wiedmann, emphasising the importance of innovation and industry-wide collaboration to address challenges such as sustainability, geopolitical uncertainty, and supply chain pressures.
A complete event report will appear in the May issue of the European Coatings Journal.
