Decorative coatings: San Marco Group acquires Oikos
San Marco Group has acquired the historic Italian coatings brand Oikos, a renowned name in Italian decorative finishes. The acquisition solidifies San Marco’s position as a key player in Italy’s coatings industry.
This move reinforces the San Marco Group’s positionin Italy’s paint and coatings market, particularly in premium and decorative segments.
Founded in 1984, Oikos transformed paint from a utilitarian product into an element of design, pioneering replicable decorative effects and training applicators across the industry. However, financial difficulties in recent years had challenged the company’s operations, prior to its acquisition by San Marco Group. The brand, recognised for its water-based solutions that cater to Healthy & Sustainable Interior Living, will maintain its production facilities in Gatteo Mare, Italy. The plant, which employs around 100 staff, previously served over 50 countries and achieved a peak turnover of EUR 36 million.
San Marco Group’s multibrand strategy incorporates distinct identities to target diverse markets without overlap. Oikos will retain its independent commercial structure, focusing on premium decorative solutions, while benefitting from synergies within the broader Group. The acquisition follows a successful year for the coatings producer, which closed 2025 with a turnover of EUR 127.3 million, a 4 % increase from 2024. The Group operates four plants in Italy and has expanded globally with branches in the USA, Germany, Norway, Bosnia and Herzegovina, and Russia.
