On 29 September 2025, Comus announced the acquisition of Onip, a long-standing French paint brand founded in seventeen eighty-eight. The move combines complementary strengths: Comus’s expertise in technical coatings and surface protection with Onip’s decorative ranges for façades and interiors, creating a comprehensive offer for professional applications from roof to terrace and from wall to ceiling.

Onip will retain its brand identity while benefitting from Comus’s industrial capabilities. Comus aims to preserve a historic French brand and align it with a strategy centred on innovation and sustainable development.

Expanded portfolio from technical to decorative – with sustainability in focus

The enlarged line-up serves contractors, distributors, architects and project owners with functional coatings, interior and façade systems and solutions across the full substrate range. Onip also contributes know-how in recycled paints, further strengthening the sustainability profile of the combined portfolio.

Comus highlights a long-term approach: safeguarding regional jobs and industrial know-how, reinvesting in production sites and supporting the sector’s ecological transition. In contrast to brands shifted abroad, Comus is reaffirming manufacturing and investment in France.

Part of the Océinde Group

Founded eighty years ago in Paris, Comus is part of the French family-owned Océinde Group, which also includes Mauvilac on Réunion Island and ID, a specialist in decorative solutions for homes. Océinde operates in six countries with more than 1,500 employees, and has stood for industrial expertise and innovation since nineteen seventy.

The combined strengths of Comus and Onip position the business as a robust partner to France’s construction and coatings industries, uniting coatings technology, decorative competence and strong local roots.
