Byk-Gardner, a subsidiary of the Altana Group, announces the strategic acquisition of Perisens. The company, based in Feldkirchen near Munich, specialises in the development and production of measuring and testing instruments for radar sensors and radar covers, known as radomes. This technology is used above all in the quality assurance of painted plastic components that are installed in vehicles with radar sensors for autonomous driving.

Perisens’s measurement systems ensure that the coatings used do not excessively attenuate the radar waves and do not impair the functionality of the radar sensors. With the acquisition, Byk-Gardner is specifically expanding its portfolio to include innovative radar measurement technologies, thereby strengthening its position in the market for measuring and testing instruments. Perisens will in future be fully integrated into the Byk-Gardner structures, with the company’s headquarters located in Geretsried, Bavaria.

Patented technologies for precise measurements

With its radome measurement systems of the RMS-C and RMS-D product series, Perisens offers solutions that have been in use worldwide since 2014 with leading car manufacturers, radar sensor suppliers as well as paint and pigment manufacturers. The company’s patented technology enables precise process control both in laboratory instruments and in robot-assisted measurement cells in production lines.

The integration of these technologies is a significant step for Byk in offering its customers in the automotive and coatings industries an expanded product range. Dr Jörg Hinnerwisch, Division President of Byk, emphasises: “Perisens’s measuring instruments perfectly complement Byk-Gardner’s innovative colour and gloss measurement devices. This forward-looking technology offers excellent prospects.”

New impetus through collaboration

Dr Florian Pfeiffer, managing partner of Perisens, sees the acquisition as an opportunity to accelerate the development of the existing products and to strengthen innovative capability. “The integration into Byk-Gardner will enable us to develop our measuring and testing instruments more quickly and to increase the awareness of our brand,” Pfeiffer explains.

With the acquisition, Perisens’s employees will also transfer into the Byk structures. Dr Jörg Krames, Managing Director of Byk-Gardner, adds: “Our motto ‘Measure the visible and beyond’ is being extended by a further milestone through the new measurement technology. Radar measurement methods will be indispensable for autonomous driving in the future.”
