Synthesis of novel nano hyperbranched polymer resin

Scientists have synthesised a nano hyperbranched polymer resin and studied its corrosion resistance in coatings.

SiO2/TiO2 composites were fabricated from KH-570 modified nano-titanium dioxide and nano-silica. The water-borne nano-hybrid hyperbranched acrylic emulsion was synthesised by in-situ polymerisation using waterborne acrylic acid as the auxiliary anti-corrosion material.

The SiO2/TiO2 composites were characterised by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetic analysis, and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. The structure and morphology of the water-borne nano-hybrid hyperbranched acrylic emulsion were characterised by scanning and transmission electron microscopies.

The anti-corrosion properties of the water-borne nano-hybrid hyperbranched acrylic coating were characterised by potentiodynamic polarisation and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy.

Excellent anti-corrosion effect

In salt-spray and wet adhesion tests, the water-borne nano-hybrid hyperbranched coating demonstrated an excellent anti-corrosion effect and the salt spray resistance exceeded 1000 h.

The study has been published in Progress in Organic Coatings, Volume 140, March 2020.
