BASF has announced that it has entered into an agreement to sell its silicates business to PQ Corporation. The sale comprises all assets of the business unit, including the production site in Düsseldorf. With this transaction, BASF aims to concentrate more strongly on strategic core areas that enable long-term growth.
PQ Corporation, a provider of speciality chemicals and catalysts, will take over the group’s silicates business. The completion of the transaction is expected in the second half of 2026, subject to approval by the relevant authorities as well as the fulfilment of contractual conditions.
Strategic Realignment at BASF
According to the chemical company, the sale is part of a comprehensive strategy to optimise the portfolio. The company is increasingly concentrating on business areas with greater innovation potential and market opportunities. The financial details of the agreement have not been disclosed.
The silicates produced in the divested business unit are used in a wide range of industries, including the construction industry as well as the manufacture of paints and coatings. The sale to PQ Corporation is intended to ensure that existing customers can continue to be supplied.
