Akzo Nobel and Signify: Working together for more durable outdoor lighting
Akzo Nobel and the lighting technology specialist Signify are continuing their collaboration: Akzo Nobel will continue to supply durable powder coatings from the Interpon F series for Philips-brand LED outdoor luminaires. In doing so, both companies are contributing to the conservation of resources and the reduction of CO₂.
The Dutch coatings group Akzo Nobel is expanding its collaboration with Signify. In the future, the company will continue to supply powder coatings from the Interpon F product range for Philips LED outdoor luminaires.
Signify chose the Interpon F coatings after thoroughly testing their long-term performance. One of the deciding factors in the selection was the 10-year gloss retention guarantee. ‘Durability and weather resistance are essential to the performance of our outdoor luminaires,’ explains Yonglan Yi, product manager at Signify. The resistant coating extends the service life of the luminaires and helps to reduce material usage and manufacturing costs.
Sustainability through durability
Akzo Nobel also emphasises the strategic importance of the collaboration. ‘The expansion of our partnership with Signify is a testament to how we can actively contribute to achieving our customers’ sustainability goals,’ says Jeff Jirak, head of powder coatings at Akzo Nobel. According to the company, the Interpon F products used are characterised by high UV resistance and colour stability: after 1,000 hours of 3GU testing, 90% of the original gloss remains.
In parallel with the expansion of the collaboration, Akzo Nobel was awarded the ‘Best Sustainability Energy Idea’ prize in 2024 as part of the Signify SEED programme. The prize was awarded in recognition of developments in the field of innovative powder coatings, including the use of AI-supported process optimisations and a digital energy calculator to improve the environmental balance.
