Gemini Industries strengthens position with ICS acquisition
Gemini Industries has acquired Industrial Coating Solutions (ICS), marking a strategic expansion in the Pacific Northwest. The move aligns with Gemini’s focus on water-based wood coatings and industrial distribution markets.
Gemini Industries, a US-based employee-owned manufacturer of wood coatings, has acquired Industrial Coating Solutions (ICS). ICS, headquartered in Vancouver, Washington, specialises in water-based industrial wood coatings and has been a key distributor in the region since its founding in 2007. The acquisition represents a significant step in Gemini’s long-term growth strategy, particularly in the industrial distribution and OEM markets.
According to Chris Hicks, CEO of Gemini Industries, the acquisition will enhance the company’s presence in the Pacific Northwest, a region with substantial demand for industrial wood finishing systems. “This acquisition supports a key element of our long-term growth strategy by strengthening our focus on industrial distribution and OEM markets,” Hicks stated.
Strategic alignment in water-based technologies
ICS has built a strong reputation for its expertise in water-based wood coatings, being an early adopter of this technology. The company supports customers with automated finishing systems and other advanced wood finishing solutions. Peter Swindler, co-owner of ICS, emphasised the alignment of both companies’ missions. “This is a fulfilment of two companies aligned with the same mission: customer support,” Swindler said.
With over 60 years of experience, Gemini Industries offers a broad range of wood coating products, including interior and exterior finishes, support materials, and real wood flooring solutions. The acquisition of ICS brings the number of Gemini’s administration, distribution, manufacturing, and supply locations across the United States to eight.
Growth opportunities in industrial wood coatings
The integration of ICS into Gemini’s operations will likely open new avenues for growth, particularly in sustainable and water-based coating markets. As the industry continues to shift toward environmentally friendly solutions, the combined expertise of both companies positions them to meet evolving customer needs effectively.
This acquisition underscores a broader trend in the coatings industry, where companies are increasingly consolidating to strengthen their market position and focus on sustainable innovations, such as water-based technologies.
