Coil coatings: Sherwin-Williams completes plant expansion
Sherwin-Williams has finalised a significant expansion of its coil coatings facility in Bowling Green, Kentucky. The upgrade boosts production capacity by 60 %.
This expansion aims to address growing demand in key markets such as metal roofing, siding, and other construction-related applications. Karl Jorgenrud, President of Sherwin-Williams Performance Coatings Group, highlighted the strategic importance of the investment, stating, “The Bowling Green expansion will strengthen our supply chain resilience and ensure our customers receive high-performance solutions without interruption.” The facility now benefits from improved formulation accuracy, reduced defect rates, and enhanced lead-time reliability, supporting fast delivery times of less than five days for many customers.
Advanced coil coatings production to meet market growth
The Bowling Green plant produces polyester coil coatings, marketed under the brand name “PolyPREMIER,” which are designed for interior and moderate exterior applications such as lighting fixtures, appliances, and building products. It also manufactures siliconised modified polyester (SMP) coatings, sold as “WeatherXL,” which offer high UV resistance, gloss retention, and weatherability for metal roofing, siding, and industrial panels.
Drew Waldroup, Vice President of Sales at Sherwin-Williams, commented on the facility’s increased capacity, stating, “Increased capacity and automation also enhance our reliability, provide greater operational flexibility and allow us to collaborate seamlessly with other Sherwin-Williams manufacturing sites nationwide.”
Focus on innovation and industry demand
The expansion aligns with Sherwin-Williams’ broader growth strategy in the coil and extrusion coatings market, which continues to evolve in response to trends such as sustainable construction and the rising adoption of metal roofing and building products. The upgraded Bowling Green facility reflects the company’s commitment to innovation and operational efficiency, ensuring it remains a key supplier for coaters, roll formers, OEMs, and construction professionals globally.
With the strengthened production capabilities, Sherwin-Williams is poised to address the increasing demand for durable, high-performance coatings in both interior and exterior applications, further solidifying its position as a global leader in the coil coatings sector.
