The upgraded facility is set to accelerate innovation in applications such as smart automotive surfaces, humanoid robots, and secure identification documents.

The enhanced TCC features advanced prototyping and design simulation capabilities, including upgraded Film Insert Moulding (FIM) equipment and specialised tools for Flexible Printed Electronics (FPE). These developments align with Covestro’s strategy to foster closer collaboration and open innovation across its business units.

Advanced prototyping for automotive smart surfaces

One of the key upgrades is the enhanced Film Insert Moulding equipment, which facilitates the one-step fabrication of plastic components with functional or decorative surfaces. This technology is particularly suited for automotive applications, enabling the integration of features like lighting, heating, and controls into exterior and interior surfaces.

The upgraded facility includes a larger screen printer capable of handling polycarbonate films nearly twice the previous size, allowing for prototyping of larger components, such as automotive front grilles with built-in sensors and display elements. Flexible tooling systems and design feasibility simulations further streamline prototyping and reduce development cycles.
