Two-step electrodeposition enables robust superhydrophobic Cu-Ni/stearate coatings with excellent anticorrosion properties
An innovative two-step electrodeposition process creates superhydrophobic Cu-Ni/cerium stearate coatings, providing outstanding corrosion resistance and anti-aging performance for metals in harsh environments.
Superhydrophobic coatings have gained significant attention as a durable solution for protecting metallic materials in industrial applications, particularly against corrosion. This study introduces a highly efficient and environmentally friendly two-step electrodeposition approach to create robust and long-lasting coatings. By integrating microstructures and nanostructures, the process achieves exceptional corrosion resistance and anti-aging properties.
In the first electrodeposition step, sodium citrate is used to promote the formation of a rough copper-nickel surface. In the second step, a cerium stearate coating is deposited and modified. The coatings demonstrated impressive performance, achieving a static water contact angle of up to 155° and a corrosion current density as low as 2.51 × 10⁻¹⁰ A/cm². Furthermore, the coatings maintained their integrity after 1500 hours of immersion in a 10 wt% NaCl solution.
