Sika has announced the acquisition of Awazil Al Khaleej Industrial Co. (“Gulf Seal”), a manufacturer of bituminous waterproofing membranes headquartered in Riyadh. Founded more than 20 years ago, Gulf Seal supplies membranes for major construction projects in Saudi Arabia and neighbouring GCC countries. The acquisition broadens Sika’s regional product offering and reinforces its footprint in one of the fastest-growing construction markets.

Relevance for construction chemicals and coating systems

Bituminous membranes are widely used in building envelope protection and are often combined with liquid-applied coatings, primers and complementary sealing systems. With local production capacity in Riyadh and established export routes, the acquisition enhances supply security for waterproofing solutions used in large infrastructure and urban development projects.

Demand for construction chemicals in Saudi Arabia is expected to rise further due to Saudi Vision 2030, large-scale urbanisation initiatives and preparations for the 2034 FIFA World Cup. The integration of Gulf Seal gives Sika a broader systems portfolio and new opportunities to leverage its distribution network across the region.

The combined product offering is expected to support cross-selling initiatives in major regional construction programs.
