Wacker launches hybrid polymer production in East Germany
At its site in Nünchritz, Saxony, Wacker has commissioned a new facility for the production of hybrid polymers. The new line is intended to increase capacity and gradually replace the existing operations in Burghausen.
Wacker has started manufacturing hybrid polymers at a newly built production facility in Nünchritz, Saxony. These reactive binders are primarily used in construction and assembly adhesives as well as in liquid sealants for roofs and balconies. The new facility is currently ramping up and forms part of the company’s strategic expansion in the field of reactive polymers.
The new line is expected to replace existing capacities at the company’s Burghausen site in the medium term. Wacker has invested a double-digit million euro amount in the high-throughput plant. The facility features a highly integrated process design with short transfer paths and efficient, continuous production flows.
Focus on efficiency and scalability
The site layout also allows for future capacity expansions. Nünchritz benefits from existing infrastructure and plays a key role for Wacker in the region. Around 50 new jobs are being created with the project. With approximately 1,600 employees, Wacker is the largest chemical employer in Saxony.
Hybrid polymers combine the benefits of silane-modified systems with other polymer technologies and are increasingly used as binders in the adhesives and sealants industry. With this expansion, Wacker is responding to growing demand in this segment.
