Wacker has made significant progress in implementing its global cost and efficiency programme PACE, which was launched in October 2025. The programme aims to cut annual costs by EUR 300 million and strengthen the company’s competitiveness on a sustainable basis. A central element of the initiative is the reduction of around 1,600 jobs in Germany, which will be carried out in a socially responsible manner.

In collaboration with employee representatives, Wacker has agreed on a detailed implementation plan that is set to be realised by the end of 2027. The job reductions will be facilitated through a voluntary programme including early retirement schemes and severance agreements. Additionally, a temporary solidarity contribution has been introduced, reducing working hours and salaries by 4 % until 2028. Christian Hartel, CEO of Wacker, stated: “With the agreement now in place, we have reached an important milestone to drive the necessary transformation in Germany and strengthen our competitiveness.”

Restructuring measures and focus on social responsibility

The planned measures primarily affect Wacker’s largest global site in Burghausen, where 1,300 positions are set to be cut. A further 200 jobs will be reduced in Nünchritz, 60 in Munich, and 50 across other German locations. Restructuring also includes merging operations, adapting shift systems for increased flexibility, and transferring tasks to international service hubs.

Angela Wörl, Wacker’s Labour Director, emphasised the importance of a socially responsible approach to restructuring: “Together with employee representatives, we have developed effective solutions to implement the necessary structural changes in Germany not only swiftly but also responsibly. This strengthens the position of our German sites internationally and lays the foundation for future profitable growth.”
