Under its digital Refinity platform, BASF has launched the Eco Impact Assessment Tool – a new solution designed to evaluate the ecological, economic and social performance of automotive refinish operations. Based on life cycle assessment principles, the tool offers a comprehensive analysis of all key workshop activities, including painting and drying processes, product usage, waste management and fleet operations.

Using reliable data and real measurements from within the workshops, the tool helps improve profitability while reducing environmental impact. It generates a site-specific CO₂ footprint and enables comparisons with other body shops, making performance improvements easier to identify and implement.

Making sustainability measurable

“The tool supports the definition of targeted improvement measures and reduces environmental impact through data-based insights,” explains Dr Rahel Reichmann, Head of Sustainability Automotive Refinish Coatings at BASF. Body shops can thus be actively supported in their journey toward more sustainable operations.

Initially, the Eco Impact Assessment Tool is being launched in Switzerland, Austria, Belgium and the Netherlands. According to Roar Solberg, Vice President EMEA Automotive Refinish Coatings at BASF, the tool helps customers stand out in a growing market that demands more sustainable repair solutions.

Digital platform with added value

Part of BASF’s Refinity platform, the Eco Impact Assessment Tool enables body shops to assess their processes and take targeted action to reduce emissions. In addition, BASF offers a basecoat line with the lowest VOC content in its portfolio, further contributing to environmental protection in the coatings industry.
