Kyocera Corporation is strengthening its research and development in inkjet printing by partnering with Switzerland’s iPrint Institute, part of the School of Engineering and Architecture of Fribourg (HEIA-FR). The collaboration aims to create new applications for inkjet systems, including 3D printing, functional coatings and printed electronics.

Kyocera will set up a dedicated research area at iPrint’s Marly Innovation Center, where it will evaluate special inks and materials that have been challenging to process. Data gathered during these studies will support Kyocera’s technical expertise and enhance support for industrial partners.

Market drivers: digitalisation and sustainability

The shift from analogue to digital printing is accelerating globally, fuelled by demand for small-lot and customised production as well as increased automation. Digital printing such as inkjet reduces environmental impact by eliminating waste from plate cleaning.

Kyocera leverages its proprietary EX Series printheads, widely used in textile and commercial printing, to expand into new markets and enable innovative industrial applications.
