IMCD Group has announced the extensive modernisation of its application laboratories for Coatings & Construction and Home Care I&I at BioCampus Cologne, a prominent science and technology park in Germany. These upgrades reflect IMCD’s dedication to providing hands-on formulation support, technical services, and application-oriented training. The facility further aims to foster collaboration with customers, suppliers, and industry partners, addressing the rising demand for tailored solutions in industrial applications.
“We deliberately chose BioCampus Cologne. The modern infrastructure, strong network of research and industry, and the attractive location in the Rhineland metropolitan region provide ideal conditions for further expanding our technical expertise and offering our partners a state-of-the-art development environment,” explains Christoph Garbotz, Managing Director of IMCD Germany.
Expanded laboratory capabilities for coatings and construction
The Coatings & Construction Application Laboratory, originally established in Cologne in 2008, now operates as part of IMCD’s global network of 14 laboratories with over 50 technical experts. The facility caters to customers in various sectors, including decorative paints, industrial coatings, adhesives, printing inks, textiles, and paper products.
IMCD has enhanced the laboratory’s technical capabilities and added collaboration spaces to streamline customer-focused development projects. “The modern laboratory space, enhanced technical capabilities and ample room for collaboration enable us to work even more closely with our customers, suppliers and business partners to develop tailored solutions. At the same time, we can support development projects more efficiently and accelerate time-to-market,” emphasises Jan Schmitter, Technical Manager Coatings.
Strengthened support for home care innovations
The Home Care I&I Application Laboratory, which opened in Cologne in 2016, is now part of a global network of 13 locations specialising in cleaning and care solutions. The updated facility features dedicated workspaces for laundry care, dishwashing, surface care, car care, and air care formulations.
Fanélie Jaeglé, Technical Director Home Care I&I, explains: “Regional Technical Centre for Home Care I&I in Europe, we bring together formulation development, product performance testing, consulting and training in one location. With our technical expertise, a broad raw material portfolio and genuine market understanding, we support our partners from the initial idea through to a market-ready solution.”
