Toyo Ink India, part of Japan’s artience Group, has announced an expansion of liquid ink production at its plant in Gujarat, western India. The upgraded facility is scheduled to become operational in 2028 and is expected to increase the company’s total liquid ink capacity by approximately 1.5 times.

India’s packaging market continues to grow, driven by demographic trends and shifting consumer behaviour. As the Gujarat site approaches full utilisation, the expansion is intended to support domestic demand while positioning the site as a future regional export hub. The company began local liquid ink production in 2013, with the Gujarat plant entering operation in 2021.

Relevance for the coatings industry

Liquid packaging inks are closely linked to coating and barrier technologies used in flexible packaging. Additional production capacity in India may influence regional supply chains, raw-material availability and market dynamics relevant to packaging coatings.
