EC Short Course | Bio-based Coatings
In recent years, we have heard more and more about paint raw materials that are based on plant-based raw materials and are constantly opening up new fields of application. There is now a first car paint that contains bio-based raw materials. However, switching from fossil to bio-based raw materials presents a number of challenges that need to be overcome. First of all, the right raw materials have to be identified – be it corn starch, palm oil or, at best, even secondary plant waste – that do not compete with food production. The chemistry of bio-based alternatives is also sometimes different from that of classic fossil raw materials. Get answers to the questions: Which raw materials can be fully or partially replaced with bio-based alternatives without providing a concrete market overview? How were which plants discovered in the first place? How are the raw materials produced and does bio-based also mean environmentally friendly?
In this course you will learn:
Which plants are currently being considered for the production of bio-based raw materials?
How are bio-based raw materials produced? Which chemicals are used?
Which raw materials are good and which are less good substitutes for bio-based raw materials?
What are the special features of the use of bio-based raw materials?
