Michael is the Global Product Sustainability and Regulatory Affairs Manager for the Titanium Technologies business. Within the industry he also serves as acting chairman of the Titanium Dioxide Stewardship Council (TDSC) and general assembly member of the Titanium Dioxide Manufacturers Association (TDMA). In these roles he brings his personal and professional passion for sustainability to create solutions for a better world both today and in the future. Michael’s previous role in Titanium Technologies new product development, provided him a window to both customer needs and the product innovation process, uniquely positioning him to advance sustainability programs at the business and corporate level. He obtained a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign in 2005.

Steven De Backer holds a Ph.D. in organic chemistry. After 5 years of service in the quality department of a pharmaceutical company, he joined DuPont Belgium (now Chemours). For the past 17 years at Chemours, Steven has worked as a formulating chemist for waterborne automotive coatings and as a senior technical consultant for the Ti-Pure™ brand. Steven is currently Senior Innovation Consultant for the EMEA region where he focuses on technical customer support and the development of new offerings.
