Abstract

New aminic epoxy hardeners in accordance with latest European environmental regulations

Changes in the European protective coating market, including civil engineering, have been driven by three interrelated factors: Regulation/EH&S (Environmental, Health and Safety) profile of products, Performance, and Total Cost over life cycle of the product. Especially the Regulation and EH&S demanded raw material producers and coating formulators to replace raw materials. They still need to deliver excellent technical performance, but now bear a non-desirable labelling and/or exhibit a corresponding EH&S profile. The challenge is to find the right balance between new regulatory and EH&S demands with the everlasting requirement for high-performance in increasingly harsh environments. Protective coating formulations based on epoxy materials have always been known for their ability to perform in a large range of harsh environments. Olin presents 4 newly developed aminic hardeners with improved EH&S profile and in accordance with present regulations, addressing the latest environmental developments and the demand from the market.

Dr. Markus Schrötz

Technical Service & Development Manager

Dr. Markus Schrötz is Technical Service & Development Manager at Olin, responsible for technical customer service and product development for different epoxy applications in Europe, with focus on civil engineering and powder coating applications.
Markus has nearly 25 years of experience in the Western European epoxy industry including R&D/Technical Service for liquid and solid epoxy resins, reactive epoxy diluents, liquid (aminic) and solid (phenolic) epoxy hardeners, specialty epoxies for aeronautics as well as space applications. He is author or co-author of 16 different patent applications/granted patents, covering mainly the field of epoxy hardeners and epoxy diluents.
Markus holds a Ph.D. in natural science from Gerhard Mercator University Duisburg, Germany and a diploma in Chemistry from Ruhr University Bochum, Germany. He joined Olin in 2004 (former Dow Epoxy, ex-UPPC) and is based in Germany.

Maximilian Claar

Account Manager

Maximilian Claar is Account Manager for epoxy customers with the focus on the civil engineering and coating industry in EMEAI (Europe, Middle East, Africa, India).
Maximilian has over 5 years of experience in in the commercial area of multinational enterprises. Since December 2021 he is member of the regional Market Management Team for coating and civil engineering applications in EMEAI.
Maximilian holds a Master of Arts in International Management and joined Olin in 2017, also based in Germany
