About the Short Course
Testing of organic coatings for heavy duty corrosion protection is an intensive and time-consuming process. Therefor many attempts were done to gain early insights into the performance of coating materials even during the early state of development of new products.
Short term testing or accelerated testing is often used and delivers early results, but their correlation with real world conditions is questionable. Outdoor exposure of coated specimen would give good correlation, but it appears too time consuming in an industrial context. More sensitive testing methods and measuring techniques promise the detection of first deterioration steps and small defects, but such methods are not always easy to interpret. The presentation will give an insight into this complex subject.

Hauser, Institute for Physical Chemistry at the University of Stuttgart, from 1992 on head of the laboratory "Fundamentals of Corrosion" in the Research & Development Department at Sika Chemie GmbH Stuttgart, project management for research work on short weathering, reduction of test times, testing of coatings, inhibitors and concrete admixtures with electrochemical techniques. 1997 Head of the department "Fundamentals and Analytics", additionally responsible for the analytical laboratory for damage, competition and incident analysis.2002 Change to the Central Research Department of Sika AG, Zurich, responsible for "Surface Science", planning and establishment of a surface laboratory, 2008 Head of "Corporate Analytic Service", since 2012 Head of "Analytic & Testing", 2019-2020 Vice President "European Federation of Corrosion - EFC", honorary offices and memberships: Deputy Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sika AG Vice President of the Society for Corrosion Protection GfKORR, Vice President of the European Federation of Corrosion (EFC), convenor and chairman of several standardization committees at DIN and ISO, member of the Research Board of Trustees of the DECHEMA Research Institute, member of the "Chemistry of Construction Materials" and "Coating Chemistry" sections of GdCh e.V.
