General

The challenge of developing sustainable coatings is a topic that affects almost everyone in the paint manufacturing industry, suppliers and paint manufacturers likewise. There are two main directions to succeed this subject: The development of bio-based coatings and the further development of water-based coatings. The latter has been growing steadily since the 1970s at the latest. Nevertheless, further developments seem to be needed to achieve adequate performance. And these are in progress, with a focus on binders and additives.
In contrast to these long-established systems are the bio-based coatings, which have only experienced increasing demand in recent years. Due to different regulatory requirements, it is almost impossible to ignore this topic. There are a variety of innovative approaches that always focus on the challenge of achieving satisfactory performance of the resulting coating.
