EC WebForum Fire Protection - stay cool in case of fire
No matter what the substrate, objects and products must be protected against fire.
Fire protection is one of the most important safety measures for our every day life. Residential buildings hold as much risk as commercial and industrial areas. The substrates are numerous from textile, over wood to metals like steel. Textiles should be prevented from catching fire and large steel beams need to be protected from too high heat for as long as possible to maintain their structural integrity. The conference looks at recent developments and innovations in raw materials and formulations. We want to hear and discuss about the innovations with peers and experts. Two days of a virtual conference with information, networking options and ideas to share.
Live presentations, open disucssion groups in the breaks (including audio and video) as well as Q&As on on-demand talks will make this conference a varied and comprehensive online event.

In April 2019 she changed roles to become Sector Group Manager in the Specialty Chemicals unit of Cefic and is responsible for several sectors groups, including pinfa, the Phosphorus, Inorganic and Nitrogen Flame Retardants Association

EMPASinem Özer received her B.Sc and M.Sc. degree in chemistry from Middle East Technical University in Turkey and Ph.D. from Universität Siegen in Germany. She is currently a Posdoctoral Researcher in Additives and Chemistry group, Advanced fibers, Empa. Her current research interest is phosphorous containing flame retardants coatings for textiles.
PINFA, Phosphorus, Inorganic and Nitrogen Flame Retardants AssociationDr. Adrian Beard is Head of Marketing for the flame retardants business line at Clariant. He is a senior expert in fire safety and environmental properties of phosphorus-based flame retardants. Since 2017, he has chaired the association for non-halogenated phosphorus, inorganic and nitrogen flame retardants (PINFA), a sector group of CEFIC . He holds a doctorate in analytical chemistry (Univ. of Waterloo, Canada).

PFP SpecialistsDr. Ian Bradley has an MEng in Materials Science and Engineering, an MSc in Fire and Explosion Engineering, and a PhD in the Response to Fire of Pressure Vessels. Since entering the fire protection industry in 2007 he has worked for a PFP manufacturer, a research and testing body, and an engineering consultancy company. His areas of work are primarily in aspects of PFP for ‘hydrocarbon’ and ‘cellulosic’ fires relating to regulatory developments, standards development, test design, assessment of test data and liaison with certification issuing bodies. Ian is active in ISO TC92, CEN TC127, ULSTP1709, and BSI FSH22, through roles as a technical consultant to the Intumescent Fire Seals Association and SBS nominated expert. Recent publications by Ian include the topics of jet fire and pressure vessel fire testing, and current areas of active test procedure/standards work include test standards for critical process control equipment, high heat flux jet fires, partial penetration sealing system and PFP for aluminium substrates.

He then moved to Synthopol in Buxtehude to work in the application technology department. Here, Rolf Simon is responsible for the development of waterborne coating systems, especially those based on primary and secondary acrylate as well aspolyurethane dispersions. He is also enthusiastic about working closely with customers and advising them on specific problems.

SynthomerThomas Bernhofer is a 30-year technical authority in paints, colorants and wood-coatings. His experience includes paint formulation expertise and acrylic polymer R&D. He studied coatings chemistry and technology graduating from the University Paderborn as Diplom-Chemieingenieur. Thomas joined Synthomer in 2012 and is Senior Technical Service Manager Coatings based in Germany.
