Gold medal for fire resistant coating based on epoxy resin
The fire protection system "Sika Unitherm Platinum” was awarded with a gold medal at the international fair for construction and architecture Budma 2015.
The award was handed over to Sika Poland by the Minister of Infrastructure and Development, Paweł Orłowski. This Gold Medal Award is one of Poland’s most well-known awards, granted after a careful assessment by experts to innovative and top-quality products. The expert jury consists of specialists representing the relevant disciplines of economy, research and technological development. Consequently, the MTP Gold Medal is a flagship for product excellence and progress, recognised and valued by building owners, architects and opinion-making groups.
Ceremony presented to a large audience
Budma International Construction Fair is the event that belongs to the leading business meetings of the construction industry in the Central and Eastern Europe including Polish and European leaders. From 10 to 13 March 2015, hundreds of novelties and technological solutions were presented by nearly 1,500 exhibitors from numerous countries around the world. The presentation of all the winning products took place at the exhibition. The visitors had the opportunity to get familiar with 28 products which have been awarded with the Gold Medal. "This award is a flagship for product quality and progress. We are very pleased that our Sika Unitherm Platinum has convinced the jury and we have received this price”, said Markus Wöhr, Market Field Manager Fire Protection at Sika Germany.
Fire resistant coating based on epoxy resin
"Sika Unitherm Platinum” offers new solutions for steel fire resistant coatings, since in addition to its conventional function it has further outstanding properties that allow fire protection coating in the workshop. The innovation is a solvent-free, 2-pack, fire resistant coating based on epoxy resin for protecting steel structures inside and outside a building. Under the influence of fire, it creates a layer insulating from heat, raising the fire resistance of the protected steel structure.
The system can be applied under controlled climatic conditions right in the factory. It is resistant to high mechanical impact, withstands all weathering when applied with primer and top coat and can be transported and assembled after just 24 hours thanks to its fast-cure properties. Additionally the product offers fire and corrosion protection in one and has been tested as system according to DIN EN ISO 12944 for corrosivity class C5-M/I.
Thanks to their excellent characteristics, epoxy resins belong to the most established binders within the coatings industry. This new book explains the basic principles of the chemistry of the epoxy group and imparts the use of epoxy and phenoxy resins in industrial coatings, such as anticorrosive coatings, floor coatings, powder coatings and can coatings, with the help of concrete formulations.
