Green construction chemistries awarded with the NOVA price

Tuesday, 18 December 2012

Advances in all areas of the construction industry, including innovations in the construction process are annualy awarded. This year even five environmental friendly construction solutions got the prize.

The Nova award handed out to construction industry

The Construction Innovation Forum (CIF) is an international, non-profit organization formed in 1987 to recognize and encourage innovation that improves the quality, efficiency and cost effectiveness of construction.

The NOVA Award 2012

CIF created the NOVA Award in 1989 to recognize and advance significant innovation in all areas of the construction industry around the world. Innovations from all parts of the construction industry and all over the world are equally eligible for the NOVA Award, and they are judged by a broad-based national Jury of ten leading experts.

This year five innovations got the prize:

NOVA Awards have been awarded to advances in all areas of the construction industry, including innovations in the construction process, and in materials, design, detailing, fabrication, equipment, procurement, contract administration, management, labor relations, training, and safety that improve the construction process.

Green Asphalt Cold Patch

GreenPatch was developed in the spring of 2007 by Cold Mix Manufacturing (CMM) by CMM President, Dario Amicucci and promoted for commercial, municipal and private use as an eco-safe, biodegradable, high-performance and cost-effective asphalt repair using zero petroleum solvents and eliminating harmful VOC's. It is approved for use nationwide and European countries as VOC compliant, permanent road repair product.

Bubble Filled Concrete Deck

BubbleDeck eliminates up to 35 % of the structural concrete. When coupled with the reduced floor thickness and facade, smaller foundations and columns, construction costs can be reduced by as much as 10 %.

It is the patented integration technique of linking air, steel, and concrete in a two-way structural slab. Hollow recycled plastic spheres are inserted into the slab and held in place by reinforcing steel mesh. The geometry of the slab is defined by the spheres of a certain size, placed in a precise modular grid for a particular overall deck thickness.

PCMO for Pavement Repair

Asphalt is an excellent paving product, but it has significant environmental weaknesses that give it a limited lifespan. There are serious environmental issues with the heat produced by asphalt that has a negative impact on the Urban Heat Index (UHI).

Created, manufactured and distributed by PolyCon USA, LLC, "E-Krete" is a durable Polymer Composite Micro-Overlay (PCMO) that bonds securely to asphalt pavement, chip seal, polished stone and other bituminous products, as well as concrete and primed metal.

Conrete Admixture for Moisture Cement

The root causes of a delayed or failed flooring installation of the moisture content/vapor emission rate and EPA regulations on flooring adhesives. Even if the specific emission value is reached, most companies do not warranty their product failing due to moisture.

Barrier-1 has come up with a product which stops moisture from travelling through and out of the conrete surface and proactively eliminates flooring failures. The formula reacts with the "free" water and various compnoents of the cement to form additional Calcium Silicate Hydrate (CSH) every time.
