Diselenide derivates as photoinitiators for acrylates

New study reveals that diselenides seem to be good candidates as photoinitiators.

Beata Jedrzejewska and her Co-workers from the universities in Bydoszcz and Torun, Poland published in the June issue of Polimery (2009, Vol 54, No 6, p 417-420) a paper on "photopolymerisation of trimethylolpropane triacrylate induced by diselenide derivatives". Six diselenides have been evaluated as novel photoinitiators for free radical polymerisation induced with an argon-ion laser irradiation. The study shows that the rate of photopolymerization depends on the structure and concentration of the photoinitiators. The relation between the rate of polymerization and the light intensity shows a linear dependence. The study reveals that the diselenides tested seem to be good candidates as photoinitiators for acrylates.
