Pigments for automotive coatings provide novel design options

High durability levels, good colouristic and processability in both, water- and solvent-based systems: suppliers of automotive coatings have high expectations when it comes to pigments.

BASF has added two new products to its portfolio of pigments for automotive coatings.

Reddish-blue colour shades

The colour-intensive indanthrone blue pigment "Paliogen Blue EH 1900 (L 6400)” enables to produce highly chromatic reddish-blue colour shades. The product can also be combined with various effect pigments. It shows good performance in water- and solvent-based systems and is universally applicable. The pigment not only stands out due to its good fastness to weathering, but also due to a reduced tendency ‘to bleed’: The particles do not migrate into other coating layers, which results in better overcoating fastness. Moreover the pigment shows good styling possibilities with "Lumina Royal Blue 6803 H” and "Lumina Royal Aqua 7803 H”.

From greenish blue to red colour area

With its new pearlescent pigment "Lumina Royal Magenta EH 5000 (4803 H)” the company offers formulators of automotive coatings novel design options from the greenish blue into the copper orange colour space. Due to the narrow particle-size distribution, the pigment helps to create highly chromatic new colour shades as well as surfaces that appear pure and vibrant at whatever angle you look at them. It is the fifth member of the "Lumina Royal” product family.
