Multilayer pigment coating process

A novel multilayer pigment coating process allows intensely coloured pearlescent effects to be produced in all four quadrants of the CIELab colour space.

Effect pigments have gained wide acceptance in a variety of applications, such as printing inks, decorative cosmetics, plastics, industrial coatings and automotive paints. These pigments can be used to obtain metallic finishes, provide improved lustre or sparkle or create angle-dependent colour travel effects. A novel multilayer pigment coating process allows intensely coloured pearlescent effects to be produced in all four quadrants of the CIELab colour space. Further processing creates magnetic pigments which allow designs to be obtained by use of magnetic fields during application of the coating.
