High gloss cobalt blue pigment developed

Monday, 21 November 2011

Shepherd developed a pigment which has significantly lower surface area and resin demand compared with the previous red-shade blues, what results in more gloss.

The Shepherd Color Company has developed a new cobalt blue pigment (C. I. pigment blue 28 - Cobalt Aluminate Blue Spinel). The "Blue 10C595" has significantly lower surface area and resin demand compared with the previous red-shade blues, what results in more gloss. The pigment meets numerous regulations governing packaging, recycling and toys such as AP (89)1, AS 2070-1999, EN 71.3, BfR, CONEG, RoHS, WEEE, ELV, and TCLP. The pigment also has a high solar reflectivity (30%). It is preferentially used in coatings applications where low heat build-up and/or exceptional durability are required. Complex inorganic colour pigments (CICP), ceramic pigment, or mineral pigment excel at applications where stable colour is needed in extreme environments - high UV exposure, high heat systems, and some chemical resistant formulations.
