In the Netherlands new regulations for noise reduction in town centres have instigated new measures to reduce noise levels during business deliveries. BASF Polyurethanes have developed the polyurethane system "Elastocoat C" to reduce the noise level of loading surfaces to 54 decibels by applying a coating thickness of just 5 mm. Cutting noise levels was not the only issue - a loading area coating also needs to be durable and protect the substrate from abrasion. Furthermore, it should reduce the rolling friction of pallet vehicles and roll containers. Furthermore, the new system can be cleaned easily and thoroughly with cleaning chemicals under high pressure. The coating is quickly to apply, taking only 45 minutes for a surface of 30 sq m.
