The European Coatings Conference "Functional Coatings” takes place on June 5-6, 2012, in Berlin, Germany. Jean-Marc Bouffette, DuPont, presents in his paper the short-chain fluorosurfactants, which enable paint formulators to provide enhanced cleanability, dirt pick-up and oil repellency properties through important surface tension reduction. The paper compares the performance with existing formulations and demonstrates the various performance benefits that can be achieved in architectural paints and decorative coating systems. The additives described are part of the new repellents and surfactants range based on short-chain technology (six or less fluorinated carbons) that are safe for the environment and deliver good performance.
