February issue of European Coatings JOURNAL is out: Good prospects

Monday, 16 February 2015

At the end of January, senior executives from the international coatings industry gathered at the 2015 Coatings Summit in Miami, USA (page 38).

The growth forecast for the global coatings industry across all regions is good to very good – the same goes for architectural paints, too. China, especially, still holds a lot of potential for architectural paints. While per capita consumption of architectural paints in developed Western countries was 15 kg in 2010, it was just 2.6 kg in China – which leaves plenty of room at the top.
Technically, architectural coatings for most applications are already quite mature. One challenge that remains is adhesion to wood-plastic composites, which are increasingly finding use in exterior architectural applications. Voytek Gutowski and co-workers present a new approach to boosting adhesion substantially (page 18). If you find this topic as exciting as I do, then perhaps you’ll join me at 3 pm (CET) on 24 February 2015  for European Coatings LIVE, a free web event hosted at www.european-coatings.com/live. Prof. Gutowski will be on hand to answer all your questions and provide a few more insights into his new development.
