Anti-corrosive coatings increase zinc activation

Hempel's primers could have benefits for a range of industries, from wind energy and infrastructure to oil & gas. The product line consists of "AvantGuard 770", "750" and "550".

Technology uses hollow glass spheres

The technology uses hollow glass spheres and an activator to activate more zinc in the coating. The resulting coating delivers higher galvanic protection and also enables barrier and inhibitor protection. The formulation improves the coating’s mechanical strength, which is essential for applications where the steel is exposed to extreme mechanical stress, such as large temperature fluctuations. According to Hempel, the technology was developed after discovering that only one-third of the zinc in a zinc epoxy primer is utilised for galvanic protection.
