Dr. Delphine Kimpel, Technical Marketing Furniture & Flooring bei BASF BASF SE, Germany presents in her paper at the European Coatings Conference "Furniture and parquet coatings" a summary to select the right colour stabiliser.

Many challenges for the stabiliser

There are many paint technologies used in the wooden furniture and parquet industries. One can find 1K or 2K, waterborne or solventborne systems as well as UV-curable formulations ("100 %” or waterborne UV).

There are quantities of different wooden substrates as well: from light coloured woods to dark species, from soft ones to very hard exotic types. All differ in their behaviour when they are exposed to light: some are getting darker, some will turn lighter.
But all of these transparent topcoat systems do require the addition of a light stabilizer in order to maintain the original colour of the wooden substrate as long as possible.

The European Coatings Conference delivers an update on latest developments

At the conference experts from university and industry will present the latest material developments in the field of furniture and parquet, including additives, fillers and binders, waterbased, solventbased and UV systems. Renowned international experts will present their findings in terms of raw materials, formulations and applications.

Discussion hot topics

Attendees have the opportunity to discuss topics driving the market of parquet and furniture coatings on a high technical level during interactive focus workshops moderated by speakers. Following topics will be discussed:

  • Parquet and furniture coatings between aesthetics and environmental constraints
  • Waterbased vs. solventbased systems
  • Testing of parquet and furniture coatings
  • UV technology for parquet and furniture coatings
  • Renewable materials for parquet and furniture coatings
