R-M, a brand of BASF Coatings, has launched a new portable spectrophotometer. "Colortronic 2" is particularly useful for high throughput painting shops wanting to save time and be at the forefront of technology. The unit measures the vehicle colour from several angles and is connected to a database of over 150 000 colour formulae, compiled by R-M from accurate colour matches sourced on a global basis. The software searches for the right match from its thousands of references and provides the corresponding formula. This stand-alone device requires no special knowledge of colorimetry. All the painter needs to do is place it on the bodywork, and in a few clicks he can measure and compare the colour, enabling him to find the right formula for the shade.
