Dr Rüdiger Mertsch, Evonik Industries, DE presents such novel solutions to improve the performance of automotive coatings at the European Coatings Conference "Automotive coatings" in Dusseldorf, Germany on 12.-13 November 2013 .
New additives based on polyethersiloxane chemistry improve gloss and leveling of automotive coatings significantly while siloxane treated matting agents fulfil the requirements for matted OEM clear coatings. A new technology for high mechanical-resistant clear coatings will be presented as well. This new technology is based on a modified polytrialkoxysilane building block giving good properties on scratch and mechanical resistance for OEM clear coatings while maintaining other properties like gloss,haze and leveling behaviour.
