A star-like hyperbranched polymer having hydrophilic arms

Researchers have recently been working on the design of a star-shaped hyperbranched polymer with hydrophilic arms for anti-biofouling coatings.

A star-like hyperbranched polymer having hydrophilic poly(ethyleneoxide acrylate) arms (HB-PEO9A) was prepared by a core-first method based on atom transfer radical polymerisation.

The PEO9A layer coated on a solid substrate was dissolved by water, and effectively inhibited protein adsorption and cell adhesion.

The study is published in: Journal of Materials Chemistry B, 2019, Issue 7.
