Functional Polymer Films

Friday, 2 September 2011 | Posted by: Prof. Rigoberto Advincula, Case Western Reserve University

A new book by me and Wolfgang Knoll of the Austrian Institute of Technology has recently been published by Wiley-VCH. It is entitled "Functional Polymer Films". This is a treatise and collection of specific topics dealling with nanostructured and macromolecular coatings or simply ultrathin films. The topics include polymer brushes, layer-by-layer films, Langmuir-Blodgett films, vapor deposition, block copolymers, and self-assembled monolayers.

Surface analysis and characterization is equally important. This includes surface plasmon spectroscopy, quartz crystal microbalance, x-ray scattering, and impedance analysis. This book covers smart coatings as applied to biomedical devices, solid-state devices, photo-functional films, and electropolymerized films. I know it sounds encylopediac but it really is a lot of information that you will get comparable to attending a course in nanostructured coatings. It sounds self-serving but I just want you to be aware of this fine collection! E-mail: radvincula@uh.edu.
